Life Cycle of C. elegans

Picture
The generalized life cycle of the worm has four larval phases between embryo and adult. It is important to note that the timing of this cycle directly depends on temperature. There is also a dauer stage-- a static period where growth stops--when conditions are unfavorable for growth and reproduction. The worm may leave this stage when environmental conditions improve.
